LES PONTS DE CE, IN THE VICINITY OF ANGERS, A PERFECT BASE CAMP
TO TAKE DIVERSIONS EITHER SIDE OF THE LOIRE, WITHIN A VALLEY LISTED
AS A UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE

Staying on the Slow Camp Loire Vallée campsite, is the best compromise by settling in, in the middle of nowhere, on an island in the Loire, with all of the services and shops of the town adjoining the campsite and in the vicinity of the city of Angers. The latter is acknowledged as the leading city in France for its quality of life.

Kilometres of cycle tracks, magnificent landscapes of the Loire Valley with its islands, beaches, troglodyte villages (centuries ago having several uses, including cave dwellings and chapels), vineyards, dozens and dozens of châteaux, both privately owned and royal estates, having as its grand finale Terra Botanica, the botanical and theme park…

The Loire Valley

AN EXCEPTIONAL REGION, THE CRADLE OF THE RENAISSANCE,

LISTED AS A UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE

Having the sense of reliving certain periods of history, is inexorably the feeling experienced as soon as you enter one of the major Loire Valley sites…a genuine journey back to the past!

Well-kept gardens, majestic architecture, splendid décors, hidden treasure…The magic starts as soon as the first landscapes of the Valley come into view. They stress the direct relationship between the Loire river and its lords. Brissac, France’s highest château

A few kilometres from your Slow Village campsite, the Château de Brissac deserves a short detour. The highest château in France with its 48-metre towers, this château built in the 11th century by Foulques Nera, and then rebuilt respectively in the 15th and 17th centuries, has remained in the same family since 1502. With its landscaped park adjoining the vineyard, Brissac stands as an imposing château over 7 levels where you may come across the Marchioness and the Marquis of Brissac, who are still in residence. The visit reveals a dazzling décor, with amongst other attributes, a belle époque theatre with seating for 200 people. The visit concludes in the château’s cellar by a wine tasting for wines produced on the estate, which are also on sale.

Anjou, capital of natural wine.

It is a new way of making so-called “natural” wines, not only organic, but without inputs or added yeasts, and today, a formidable movement has begun in Anjou, under the impetus of biodynamic pioneers who want to free themselves from the constraints inherent to AOC appellations.
